Ever since MarCloud started out, it’s been very important to us to implement and maintain stringent and secure processes when it comes to managing client data and information whilst supporting clients with their Marketing Cloud and Pardot (now Marketing Cloud Account Engagement) accounts.
So you can imagine we were pretty thrilled to recently achieve a huge milestone by becoming ISO 27001 certified! There are a few things in the last couple of months that have got us jumping about in excitement, and this is certainly one of them.
For current and future clients, an ISO 27001 certification is something to care about when choosing a consulting company for your marketing automation partner, and here’s why.
What does it mean to be ISO 27001 certified?
The ISO 27001 certification is an internationally recognised standard of data management and practise, and is the only one of its kind that outlines auditable requirements of an information security management system (ISMS).
(If you didn’t know, or needed a refresher, an ISMS is a combination of processes, policies, systems and procedures designed to ensure the safe management and protection of information from things like cyber attacks, or data theft or leaks.)
Basically, the certification is like the best-practice standard for businesses and organisations on how to securely handle and manage client data and information. It was created in 2005 and updated in 2013, and forms part of the ISO 27000 series of information security standards.
Why care about an ISO 27001 certification?
We do our best to guide our clients on how to implement and monitor best practice digital marketing activity, but none of that would mean much if we didn’t practise what we preach, right?
Talking about best practice digital marketing habits and actually implementing them are two different things – and we’ve always done our best to be the kind of organisation that can confidently guide clients to do the same when it comes to their own processes and procedures.
When it comes to marketing automation via platforms like Marketing Cloud and Account Engagement (formerly Pardot), the correct processes and procedures are vital.
Additionally, an ISO 27001 certification automatically conveys that the way we operate when it comes to client data is secure, credible, and trustworthy.
And while anyone can use the ISO 27001 framework as a guide without being certified, actually receiving the certification means our data management processes are accountable to an independent audit and review.
We’ve always been proud of our internal policies and processes to ensure client data and information is securely managed at all times, but it’s reassuring to know that the way we operate is also now recognised at an international standard.
With this new certification under our belt, it’s onwards and upwards!
